THE INTERNET PLASMA PHYSICS EDUCATION EXPERIENCE

Exercise #1

First, we will take a look at some shot numbers for plasmas consisting only of deuterium. In these plasmas, the confinement from the magnetic fields is not the best it could be. This situation is called low mode (low confinement). You will input the first shot number and view the resulting graph. Then, the second and third shot number will be input so that the resulting graph has all 3 shots. If you want to look at only a part of the graphs, you can change the x-axis (which is time) before plotting. (Your final graph should look like this when you're done.)

>> Input shot number 41087 . Note the plasma current and output fusion power values at 4 seconds.

>> Input shot number 41152 and then 45599 . Note the plasma current and output fusion power values at 4 seconds.

Question 1: What is the relationship between plasma current and output fusion power after analyzing the three shot numbers?

(Keep track of your answers on paper right now. You will submit them by email when you are done.)

a) As plasma current increases, output fusion power decreases.
b) As plasma current increases, output fusion power stays the same.
c) As plasma current increases, output fusion power increases.
d) There is no relationship between these two variables.
